VOICE TO THE VOICELESS

We were inspired by Edward Steichen’s famous MoMA exhibition, The Family of Man, and its critical responses. Specifically, we were interested in the exhibition for its display of a multiplicity of experiences in that it forms a declaration of human rights.

For our public art, we were interested in lending voices to people, some of which might be voiceless. Our idea was to create a mobile platform that accumulates people’s stories through a recording device, then projects the stories with a speaker as it travels. In doing so, we would be allowing these voices to travel across space and time. We planned to accumulate more and more stories along the entire journey.

We were also dealing with ideas of exchange and commerce as our platform for the recording simulates a cart or a stand. Instead of exchanging money for commodity, we are accepting stories and playing them back for anyone in the area to hear.

MOCK UPS

Autonomous vehicles and personal transportation devices like skateboards and scooters are increasingly becoming a popular way of getting around. Our concept takes the idea of a vehicle and transforms it into a vehicle of communication. A cart on wheels, how did you get here? is designed to intrigue city-goers to be curious and view their environment in a different way.
